Guarding Your Car from the Harmful Effects of Salt

With the winter months upon us, it is only a matter of time before road treatment vehicles are forced to take to the road to spread salt and other materials needed to keep driving conditions safe. Although there is a great benefit to using salt on the road during snow and ice storms, it can also prove to be destructive to your vehicle.

If you live in an area that relies on salt treatments for wintry roads, be sure to wash your vehicle every ten days. This is necessary because the corrosive elements of salt can damage a car's finish, lead to the development of rust, and affect how your vehicle runs.

It is also recommended to avoid driving through standing water. Because salt can collect in these waters, your car will be more likely to take on additional salt than if you make an effort to keep it dry.
